Press Release: For Immediate Release:
March 23, 2007
West Union, WV
- The Town of West
Union would like to encourage everyone to take part in the renovation of our
Main Street. As you know, we have a nicely paved Main Street now.
The next problem is our unsightly and unsafe sidewalks. We're planning a
great Downtown for the beautiful Town of West Union. Nice sidewalks and
attractive benches are a priority. We are applying for Grants (...and may
even stoop to sending tiny waifs with aluminum cans to the big cities to beg).
Donations would be
appreciated for this worthy cause.
If anyone knows any other
avenue to funding please contact the Town of West Union, 300 Court Street, West
Union, WV 26456. Telephone and Fax: 304 873-1400.
In the meantime, a Memorial
section is planned. If you would like your loved one remembered in this
section, please contact the Town Hall for the price of and the information
needed for the Brass Plaque which will be embedded into the sidewalk.

West
Union deserving of recognition to help self
Saturday,
April 7, 2007 8:14 AM CDT
Nothing but praise is due the citizens and organizations of
the town of West Union in Doddridge County, for the
determination shown in making improvements to the downtown
area.
Despite a long-time lack of funding, the spirits of members
of the various groups are high, as are hopes for a new look.
The efforts of those people must be encouraged.
We also applaud their spirit of teamwork in bringing about
the improvements.
It is not right that a municipality, especially a county
seat, would be allowed to remain in less than desirable
shape without some consideration for public money to help
it.
Although town residents are well aware of the lack of
funding to make improvements, they're not letting that get
in their way of doing their part to make things start to
happen in West Union.
Philip McMillan, executive director for the Doddridge County
Economic Development Authority, deserves kudos for promoting
the teamwork.
His organization, the Doddridge County Commission, the West
Union Town Council, the Lions Club, the business owners'
association and others are working together to help satisfy
the needs of the town, to make it more attractive for
visitors, tourists and businesses.
Quite a few adjustments are needed in West Union, said
Frances Stewart, part-time clerk at town hall.
Her resolve to help make those adjustments should also be
recognized.
The recent approval of a memorial section adorned with brass
plaques was a good move, and it's hoped that some
organization or agency will take note of the town's request
for donations.
As for appearance, sidewalks in West Union's downtown are in
poor shape, yet there has been no state money provided.
It's sad that West Union and Doddridge County have had such
a poor record of having their requests for grants passed
over or otherwise rejected.
When the West Union Festival takes place this summer, it
would certainly be nice for the town to show off some new
improvements to visitors.
We encourage the re-growth of West Union and the pride of
its citizens.
