WHEN: July 28 - 30, 2006 WHERE: Huntsville, AL WHO: Everyone a part of, related to, descended from, interested in any JACO family WHAT: Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon gathering to celebrate our 35th consecutive annual reunion. During this time we have not had the meeting in the same state during any two straight years! This enables some to travel from short to long distances to the site on a random basis. WHY: Fun, fellowship, educational, kinship determination, see different areas of our great country, share family stories, photos, information, show off the young new additions to the family, and such. We would love for you to join us as we gather at the Hilton Garden Inn in Huntsville, Alabama for our 35th Jaco Reunion. It has been 19 years since our last Alabama meeting, at Lake Guntersville, in 1987! Huntsville is known for its role as one of NASA’s space centers and has a wonderful space museum that is children friendly and very educational for all ages. Huntsville also has attractions for kids such as: Early Works Museum, Cathedral Caverns, Sci-Quest, and Constitution Village. For adults, such as: Huntsville Botanical Garden, Museum of Art, Burritt on the Mountain, Weeden House Museum, and Historic Huntsville Depot. Jackson County, Alabama, the adjacent county east of Madison (Huntsville), had Jacos within it as early as the 1820's and are recorded in the 1830 census. Marshall County was formed in the 1830's from the south portion of Jackson County (the area the Jacos were living) and has Jacos and their descendants present ever since. These early Jacos in Alabama had moved south from Warren County, Tennessee. Another branch of the Warren Co. Jacos moved westward to Lawrence Co., Tennessee, about 60 miles northwest of Huntsville, in the late 1800's and some of these descendants have made their way to Huntsville. Our only methods used these days to spread the word about the JACO REUNIONS these day is by word of mouth and e-mail. So we are sending you the information as we have what we know is a good e-mail address. We are in hopes that you will not only receive this message, but will in turn share it with all of your family members (most of whom we do not have an address for), and encourage them to meet you at this year’s reunion. If you have never been able to attend, we sincerely believe it will be a happy experience. One where you can learn of relations and Jaco history you have never heard of before. Everyone is invited - whether they have our family name, or if they are interested in the name because a great grandmother had the Jaco name, or for any other interest or connection to the family. The fellowship begins as early as Friday evening with the first arrivals. On Saturday there will be constant flow of establishing and renewing acquaintances in the "Apollo" room of the hotel, which will be designated as the "Jaco meeting room". There is no formal schedule of activities on this day as families are free to spend time within the meeting room or take in the many attractions of the Huntsville area. The only formal activity is on Sunday morning at 10:00 as we meet as a group in the "Saturn" room for trophy presentations to the oldest present, youngest, etc., updating as to what is happening within the "Jaco" families, door prizes, taking of photos of those present by family groups, etc. This meeting usually lasts until about noon. There is no other organized meeting and many begin to make their departures for home, while some stay another night and continue enjoying themselves. Mary Jo, Wayne and Michael Jaco of Huntsville volunteered to make all the arrangements for this year’s meeting and have worked hard to make sure we have a good location. Materials will be furnished by the Visitor Center to locate the Huntsville activities. Our heartiest thanks go to them for their time consuming efforts and the favorable results. Each individual or family is responsible for making their own reservations. The following is information you need and can use in reserving your room and in getting to there. The cut-off date for the Hilton Garden Inn is one month prior to our first day, or June 28, 2006.
