Bill and Freda were really surprised!! Who says Doddridge can't keep a secret?
The Doddridge County Historical Society has been preserving and protecting the history of Doddridge County since 1976. Dues go toward utilities and rent for our Museums. Community support is essential for a strong and active Historical Society and your support is appreciated.
Bill and Freda are mainstays of the Society and have personally done everything that needed doing to keep our memories and traditions not only alive, but available in the form of our museums which they not only handle the tours for, but clean them, protect the contents, and arrange the displays.
Mayor Charles Langfitt of the Town of West Union presented Bill Calhoun with a Proclamation from the Town of West Union declaring October 25th, 2009 William “Bill” Calhoun Day, and Freda Cox a Proclamation from the Town of West Union declaring May 31st, 2009 Freda Cox Day. (Their birthdays) Each was given a Commemorative Coin from the Town and a card (created by Robin Vanscoy) signed by all there.
Volunteers arranged the program, baked cookies (there were masses of them – each more delicious than the one before), bought punch and apple cider, made complimentary CD's for new members, made a guestbook, decorated, and served. WestUnionFest's Historical Walking Tour Ladies were out in force, in costume, and showing those beautiful smiles.
Our friends at Channel 5, Steve Butera, and Channel 12, Dani Brake, stayed and video'd the entire program, with marvelous edited pieces on their news for the day. Councilman George Buechner kept it lively with his MC skills, and drew the door prize winning numbers. Door prizes were generous (18 in all, with the Grand Prize donated by Cornerstone Bank: an overnight at the historical Covered Bridge B & B in Phillippi.)

Bill Calhoun is retiring from the presidency of the Doddridge County Historical Society. The County's help is needed in the continuation of this work that is so vital to us.
