Shirley J. Williams' Newspaper Interview

from the Clarksburg Exponent-Telegram, April 23, 2008

1.   I've lived in Doddridge County for 37 years.  The oldest daughter of the late Charles and Jacqueline Mossor, I'm married to Bill Williams, son of the late William "Boyers" and Emily "Madge" Williams.Shirley Williams for Doddridge County Commissioner

We have three children, Duane, William, and Chrystal Williams.

I attended college at WVU-Parkersburg and the WVU Local Government Leadership Academy.  I'm completing training with the state Fire Commission and FEMA, which is necessary for the county to receive Homeland Security grants.

I was first elected in 2002 and serve as president.  Also, I'm vice president of the Doddridge County Economic Development Authority, treasurer of Community Resources, Inc., vice president of the E911 Board of Directors.

I'm a member of the Opportunity Council Board, the Primary Care board of directors, West Virginia Surface Owners Rights Organization, and a recently formed Water Resources Study Committee.

I've attended West Union Christian Church for the last 13 years.

2.    If elected for a second term as Doddridge County commissioner, the experience that I've gained, I believe I am prepared to help lead Doddridge County with another term.

I've worked with many county and regional organizations to improve Doddridge County.  Among the most visible improvements are the renovations of the historic Doddridge County courtroom.

I have assisted in securing the Small Cities Block Grant award of $1.2 million to fund the Greenwood water project.

3.   By listening to Doddridge County citizens, I believe the three biggest issues facing our county in the next several years will be decent, affordable housing, infrastructure to bring  in businesses, and the challenging economy.

4.   I have heard the citizens' concerns on regionalization, so I would be against regionalizing our county with other counties.  Our county would get shuffled to the bottom if we would regionalize.

I believe we have accomplished a lot in the past six years.

With the projects we have under way, the county will be strong and independent.  I am proud of the work being done to make Doddridge County an even better place to live and work, and to preserve the values and heritage that we treasure.
