“Step Into Spring”
~~~
The 1st annual “Walk 100 Miles in 100 Days” program, sponsored by Doddridge Family Medicine, will run from April 17th through July 26th (Now, isn’t that a coincidence? July 26th is WestUnionFest!!). The theme of this year's program is “Step Into Spring”.
The program is a 15-week contest which strives to improve health through physical activity. The goal of the program is to walk one mile per day -- or 100 miles in 100 days. Other forms of aerobic exercise also count, with 20 minutes equaling one mile.
Deadline for registration is Friday, April 25th – but that will give you some catch-up to do as the Mile a Day begins on April 17th!! It is open to all.
Registration forms are available here at http://www.westunion-wv.com/events/100form.htm
or pick one up at Town Hall (300 Court Street ~ 873-1400) or Doddridge Family Medicine (302 Columbia Street ~ 304-873-2590)
Take your registration form to your doctor or to Doddridge Family Medicine for starting Blood Pressure and weight (Doddridge Family Medicine is one of our Sponsors and will perform this free as a Community Service)
Prize for ALL who turn in completed form on July 26th at the Doddridge Family Medicine Booth –
100 Miles in 100 Days can be done at your convenience (you can do one mile a day or pace it as you wish, such as 2 or 3 miles one day and skip other days that are inconvenient for you...)
(You do not have to Walk - Runners may join – use your regular training to qualify for the prize!!!!!)
Exercise does not need to be strenuous to provide you with lasting benefits. A program of walking helps control weight, reduces the risk of dying prematurely due to heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Regular walking helps build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints, and provides relief from depression and anxiety. Walk with a buddy - make a pact with a friend!
